PLATFORM

WHERE IS IT? In the Easterhouse district, far east of the city centre, just off of Westerhouse Road

Platform is one of Glasgow’s newest and aspirational venues for theatre and the arts, in an area that has often been neglected in such areas.

Built in 2007, it is part of The Bridge, a complex which also houses a swimming pool, library and John Wheatley College. The bright, spacious, multi-function design was drawn up by architecture firm Gareth Hoskins, for which they won the Royal Institute of British Architect’s Award. The jury described the project as “urban regeneration at its most powerful.” They also scooped the British Construction Industry Regeneration Award in the same year, the only Scottish nomination.
